DELHI | LUTYEN’S ARCHITECTURE ICONS

After breakfast visit to Old Delhi was an ancient walled city. Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in 1650 switched the Mughal capital from Agra to Delhi.  Shah Jehan possessing an exquisite talent, especially in architecture, created the seventh city and in the process brought about Delhi's glorious renaissance.  Here you will see Red Fort, the most opulent Fort and Palace of the Mughal Empire. The fort is Shah Jehan's symbol of power and elegance, built behind red sandstone walls. Its main gate (Lahore Gate) faces Chandni Chowk, the perpetually congested avenue heading west from the Red Fort, is filled with twisting lanes, small streets and crowded bazaars. If you peer through a portico you may see a man getting shaved, silver being weighed, or any other conceivable form of intense commerce.

Afternoon visit to New Delhi was designed and built by the British in the 1920's-it's a city of wide boulevards impressive Government buildings, green parks and gardens. In 1911 King George V announced the transfer of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi. The King's architects, Lutyens and Baker, set in motion the Design and construction of Delhi's eight cities - New Delhi.  Lutyens designed an "Imperial City" having palatial-sized buildings set amid broad tree-lined avenues punctuated by Mughal style gardens, complete with fountains and shallow pools. It took 20 years to complete this immense undertaking only to have the British pack up and relinquish the subcontinent in 1947. You will visit two monuments from Delhi's past - Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. drive pass through the Raisina Hill, ceremonial avenue past the imposing India Gate, Government Buildings, President House and Parliament House. MANDAWA | EXTRAORDINARY FRESCOES

Today drive 260 kms/ 4.30 hrs to Mandawa - The region lies the triangular area between Delhi, Jaipur and Bikaner and includes Jhunjhuniun, Sikar and Churu districts of Rajasthan upon arrival check in to Hotel. Afternoon visit the Mandawa - Shekhawati The semi-desert region of Shekhawati is popularly known as the 'open-air art gallery' of Rajasthan. Shekhawati is unique as no-where else in the world there is such a hundreds of Haveli’s, temples, cenotaphs, wells and forts. BIKANER | CAMEL COUNTRY

After breakfast 190 kms/ 3.30 hrs drive to Bikaner on the way, visit if you wish the temple Karni Mata Desnoke temple of rats. Bikaner lies on the northern point on the triangle of desert cities. It is royal walled city dating back to 1486 AD. It was established by a Rathore Prince, Bika & came to be called to be Bikaner after him. It was, however, a major trade center as it stood on the ancient caravan route which link central Asia & north India with the Gujarat Sea Ports upon arrival check in hotel. Morning embark half day tour of Jaisalmer fort. Nagaur district is the land of fairs. They are not only a center to sale and buy cattles but also show the true spirit of living life. The rural people take on these fairs as big social events; thus take part in these fairs very excitedly with great eagerness.

Besides the cattle things that are of routine use even from needles to nails are available in these events. Fairs witness strong social harmony and are seen as the true expression of rural people of Rajasthan.

  • To add fun to the fair, many cultural games will be conducted like bullock race, cockfights, tug-of-war and others. Tourists are welcome to stay and watch the games.
  • Throughout the fair, folk music will be performed by local artists.
  • The main attraction of the fair is the Mirchi Bazaar. This is the largest red chili market of Asia.
  • Animal decorations and beauty contests will be conducted

KHIMSAR | SALT WATER LAKE

After breakfast 45 Kms/1 hr drive to Khimsar – perched on the edge of the great Thar desert in the heart of rural India, It offers a wide range of experiences. The battle-scarred walls and turrets remind you of its glorious past as a center of much warfare, as well as commerce and trade. The initial construction began in 1523, but the family moved in during the 18th century when a new ‘zanana’ (ladies wing) was constructed. Thakur Onkar Singh built a regal wing for himself in the 1940s. Today, the Khimsar Fort ranks high among the premier classified heritage hotels of India.
