STONECRAFT

Religious themes are carved in stone throughout Rajasthan using the locally available stone. The temples of Rajasthan are noted for the richness of their carvings (see picture).

Today, the stone cutters (salivates) carry on the tradition of their forefathers. In Jaipur, white marble is used for carving out statues of gods and goddesses and well as human and animal figures. Other stones used to create exquisite statues are-
-Soft, Pink Sandstone
-Arnara Stone
- Soft Chlorite of Southern Rajasthan.
