Welcome To Lal Niwas

Lal Niwas, built in 1750, is a splendid example of a heritage 'havelis', a rich merchant's mansion, with intricate 'jalli' work in red sandstone, with the order of workmanship and artistry testifying not only to the skills of the artisans but the wealth and status of the owner. Situated in the picturesque, historic town of Phalodi in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Phalodi is also renowned for its old Jain and Hindu temples which are over 300 years old. The grand Lal Niwas haveli with its many-splendored traditional balconies and terraces provides a magical setting for parties and banquets and its ample courtyard recalls the glories of another era while at present, it serves as a venue for musical concerts and other shows. It has a remarkable library with books and manuscripts dating back to princely times.

Phalodi, originally known as Phalverdika or Vijaypur Patan and thereafter Phaluderdika was once a caravan centre in the Thar desert. Being on the caravan route from North West to Central India, it flourished as a trading centre. It was under the rule of Rao Maldev Rathore of Jodhpur to begin with. It then came directly under the rule of Mughal emperor Akbar, who in turn gifted the town to the rulers of Jaisalmer. The importance of the town can be gauged by the number of wars fought to gain custody of it. The Phalodi Fort is over 400 years old and its renowned Jain and Hindu temples are over 300 years old. The town of Phalodi is resplendent with numerous picturesque havelis from the 18th century, making this a unique heritage spot
