Location
The picturesque backwaters of Kerala are one of India’s most enchanting destinations. The cruise on M.V.Vrinda begins with a night in Cochin, once the centre of the thriving spice trade and now the principal port on the Malabar Coast. Cochin’s rich trading past is reflected in the Portuguese, Dutch and British influences evident in its architecture. M.V.Vrinda sets sail from Vembanad Lake jetty, located 55 kms from Trident Hilton, Cochin. The one-hour journey from Cochin to the Vrinda jetty is done by air-conditioned vehicle.
By air
Cochin (Airport Code: COK) has regular domestic flights to Agatti, Bangalore, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Goa, Madras and Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum-the capital of Kerala). Currently, there are also regular international flights to the Arabian Gulf countries. Flights to other destinations will start soon. Other international airport nearby includes Mumbai, Madras, Bangalore and Trivandrum.
By road
Three important National Highways pass through or start from Cochin, apart from many state roads. NH 47 from Kanyakumari to Salem pass right through the heart of Cochin while NH 17 to Mumbai and NH 49 to Madurai (in Tamil Nadu) starts from Kochi. Private and public transport services are available to and from all major cities of South India from here.
By rail
Cochin is connected to the rest of India by an extensive network of rails. Cochin has two main railway stations, Ernakulum Junction and Ernakulum Town. Many important trains start from here and many others pass through these stations.
By sea
Cochin has a magnificent all weather natural port. Regular boat service to places like Kottayam and Alleppey are available through the scenic backwaters of Kerala.
